Home Visiting - CAPC

In the Home Visiting Program, supportive, professional Home Visitors meet with parents to discuss parenting, child development and other matters of concern to the family.

A Home Visitor:

  • Meets with families in their own homes or elsewhere in the community (e.g. restaurants, library playgroup)
  • Sees a family once a week for approximately one hour, although both the frequency and length of visits are flexible
  • Builds a relationship with the family based on trust and respect
  • With the parents, identifies and addresses individual and family needs and established goals
  • Offers information, models skills, and facilitates referrals to specialized agencies
  • Helps with the concrete, practical tangible things that make life easier (e.g. getting food, getting money, solving problems)
  • Accompanies participants to appointments (e.g. medical, legal)
  • Listens and talks about relationship issues
  • Helps parents to understand their children and have fun with them - the Home Visitor models play and brings with her a variety of toys, book, arts and crafts
